Why I Chose UMC

My association with UMC dates back to 2014 when I joined the department of neurology as an observer. During the course of my observership I got the opportunity to interact with various faculty members in the department. In my opinion, the faculty members exhibit brilliance and expertise in the field of neurology as well as its various sub-specialties. It was during this exchange of ideas that I realized my primary area of interest in neurology was vascular neurology. UMC being a designated level 1 stroke center along with a newly opened neuro-critical care unit is the optimal place for me to nurture my skills and specialize in this field. Apart from an outstanding professionalism, I have also witnessed a friendly working environment and healthy camaraderie among the residents which is vital for any residency program to be a success. An extra plus point of choosing UMC is living in Columbia. It is a small, beautiful and peaceful university town which is quite affordable and friendly. It is also one of the best cities in the United States to live with a family. There are lots of nice trails (the famous Katy Trail) present in Columbia for enjoying activities like running, biking and hiking. I am fortunate to have got the opportunity to pursue residency training in Neurology at UMC and I am looking forward to this endeavor with full passion and sincerity.

It is a growing program with an ever increasing number of faculty and residents. In addition I saw early on that the faculty place great emphasis on both resident and medical student learning. The program fit my medical school's motto of "Docere, Studere, bene facere."

The faculty, residents and the staff have created an excellent working environment. I had the opportunity to personally interact with a lot of faculty members and appreciated the support they provided to the residents and the students. Lastly, Columbia is one of the best college-towns in the country and it has a lot to offer to nature lovers like myself.

Additionally Columbia is a city that is 'not-too-small-and-not-too-big', meaning you can always find something fun to do, without the hustle and bustle of a big city.

Why I Chose UMC

ecause of several good reasons but my biggest being: Dr. Lanigar, Dr. Bandy, Dr. Asher, Dr.Newey, Dr.French, and most importantly Dr.Rolan aka Yoda...my teacher, my life mentor, my secret keeper. The entire faculty are a testament to great teaching so the list can go on from Dr. Anilkumar all the way to Dr.Zhou if we were to go in alphabetical order. In life there are good teachers and then there are great teachers. I chose UMC because I met several great teachers and I did not want to I give up the opportunity to learn from them. In addition, I love to teach and having that constant interaction with teaching medical students who are so enthusiastic to learn makes my job even more rewarding.
