The University of Missouri School of Medicine provides an educational environment in which the health of our patients is our first priority. Innovation and the application of continuous quality improvement to our curriculum are core values. By applying continuous improvement principles to our work as educators, we not only enhance our educational programs, but also model our own commitment to improving quality and safety.

Our goal is to train learners in an environment where improving care is a routine part of providing care. Our learning experiences model commitment to the patient as the first priority and always include respect for patient's needs and preferences. Learning methods are based on problems, situated in actual clinical contexts to foster skills in self-directed and lifelong learning. Examples include our successful patient-based learning, previously called problem-based learning, curriculum; standardized patient encounters in our state-of-the-art simulation center; rural-track program experiences; and a curriculum that emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork.
